An amusing quip from Tomasz yesterday, at the end of News Of One. Sophie Raworth ended on a story about a crocodile (as they do), so Tomasz amusingly ventured the weather was "crocking" {iii}. However the new government's spending-plans dominated the news yesterday, The Schaf was worried that Simone was going announce that weatherman were to be axed! Thankfully that's not the case-- hearing Tomasz talking about "beefy showers" at the Queen's Club, makes my day.
Now on to today, Tomasz was wearing another glam pink tie. Talking about "cracking on" {i}, after a mention about thunderstorms [chortle]. Tomasz treated us to a nice diagram, and he expertly told us about pressure systems/airflow.
Radio 4's Heresy programme discussed weathermen today, fast-foward to 17:10 in the next six days! Lies indeed, our Tomasz never tells lies! {ii}. Tomasz reading the Shipping Forecast is divine, when he's talking about rising and swelling.
Janet Street-Porter has two sexual-fantasy weathermen... Daniel Corbett talking about "spits and spots", his "paragraphs" and "clipped tones". And Paul 'Mayor of Wetwang' Hudson off Look North Hull/Leeds, pure "cabaret". I'm sure Jon Mitchell will be pleased to hear that.
I wonder how Tomasz feels about not being lusted after, by JSP?! Besides the best regional BBC weather presenter has to be BBC Points West's charismatic, talented, genial and sickenly handsome Chris James.

Hot stuff on the horizon
The Schaf was on the News Channel last night, exuding hotness and warmth. He was certainly right about Yorkshire, as R Jon confirmed on Calendar tonight... Mr Mitchell was walking around Roundhay Park wearing shorts talking about hotspots in the region. Now why can't Tomasz come up to Wollaton Park and do that? In my dreams [sigh]
I like the way Tomasz talks about the PGA golf championship and "little wind to move those balls around, flying in the air". Well if the golfers go commando...
Przepraszam Tomasz, but I'll be one of the people who'll be complaining it's too warm... I know how you like hot/humid weather-- yes I'm a "dziwak"-- I know! I just prefer fresh northerlies...

A small, Liddle mind
Tomasz has been absent for a few days; so I thought I would write about this article written in The Times a few months ago-- written by Rod Liddle (of Radio 4 fame).
He was sounding off about television weathermen, one in particular-- you can probably guess who....

I thought he was a bit mean about our weather god-- I love Tomasz's ebullient and animated style! It's refreshing, especially where there are so many 'autocuties' out there with no personality. The only time I find hot and humid weather bearable, is Tomasz tells me about it.
There are many weather-forecasters out there who are dull and lacking charisma; the weather can be depressing enough, without an equally soul-destroying presenter. Just because they are meterologists, doesn't mean they to be have to wooden.
Jon Mitchell of Calendar is a good example: A fully-qualified meterologist, who presents the weather without dumbing down and even including techincal terms-- but he does it in an engaging and lively way. He has more energy than the Duracell bunny {i}
Tomasz: Your enthusiam, cheeky humour, radiant personality and 'campness', is a huge part of your appeal-- don't ever lose it (if you ever read this)! You brighten the weather (however dire it is) with that gorgeous smile and wonderful patter... not forgetting the treats you give us on *those* Country Tracks forecasts!
What does Rod Liddle know anyway? He was barely noble enough to fit into the late, great Alan Coren's shoes on Call My Bluff {ii} for a start. Hmmm... I wonder if the article is still open for comments [evil grin, wink]

{ii} Wasn't the theme-tune for Call My bluff annoyingly catchy?

Tomasz does a sterling job once more
As Tomasz unfortunately predicted, the torrential rain arrived in Cumbria and environs; causing floods of "biblical proportions", with 374mm (over a foot) of rain being dumped in some parts of the county. It is said it was the wettest 24 hours on record in Britain, "a once-in-1000-year occurence".
I'm just grateful that my part of the world received no rain yesterday or today, and my thoughts are with the people affected by hideous weather in Cumbria (and elsewhere).
It's in times like these, that our Tomasz comes into his own, he gave a great interview with Sohpie Raworth during News At One {i}: A comprehensive but straightfoward explanation of the weather systems responsible for these freak conditions-- and what's ahead...
Tomasz did a sterling job today, he gracefully told us the worst with his broadcasts.... sadly more rain to come over the weekend. From 10:57am and 11:33am
Tomasz did provide some much needed levity, bless him. He got Pudsey Bear {ii} to wave at us, at the end of the News At One bulletin. He was also wearing a bright pink tie... Tomasz that is, not Pudsey.
Tomasz also said "catch you later" at the end of one of his bulletins-- that's Jon Mitchell's {iii} catchphrase! What next, Tomasz saying a high-pitched "bye-bye" as a sign-off, as of Emma Jesson? Tomasz has the style to pull such things off though.
