Pausing for Tomasz

The Schaf is so worthy of worship, that Maxane Mawhinney "paused" for a weather update from His Loveliness. He was looking classy today; in a snazzy blue-and-white tie, a neat layer of stubble and a suit clinging to his biceps. More impressive was Tomasz's array of hand and finger movements to demonstrate weather-patterns, I can just imagining Tomasz hand-jiving.

And another one from Terratec (you're just too good!). Tomasz didn't squint hard enough at his feedback; almost mistook Wales for Northern Ireland, so he did. Not to worry, we are hearing the return of Tomasz's favourite word for autumn/winter-- it's "chilly" out.

Extended Have I Got News For You tonight, I hope to be getting it onto Youtube with the very kind assistance of Terratec (paint him Deputy Chief Shaffanatic).

A warning for tomorrow though (!), from His Loveliness

‎On Country Tracks or Weather For The Week Ahead this weekend...standard clothes (approved by BBC) for that particular weather broadcast...as always.

Yes, quite right: Dinner jacket, and don't show too much neck either. Can't be reminding jealous blokes and assorted Angry of Mayfairs, what a stunning physique you have Tomasz.

As it happens, there is no Country Tracks tomorrow, because of Rememberance Sunday celebrations: So I imagine Tomasz will appear before Formula 1, to give us the five-day forecast in his suit and tie. Well we can't have the Daily Mail having another thromby, can we. They'll be calling for him to wear a mask next.

What's in a name?

An amusing forecast from His Loveliness, as he was introduced via caption as "Presenter Name" on the 13:56 bulletin. The tanfastic Tomasz had to introduce himself in his typically charming manner...

I think yesterday I may have tempted Tomasz into a minor slip-up today, since he confused a certain nation with Wales... ooh they'll be getting the wicker-man out again [haha]. At least we got *the smile* at the end.

Speaking of The Divine One's name, he gets a special mention in Viz this month (out in the shop in the next few days). Of course it would be overly pedantic to point out that Tomasz's surname is Austrian, rather than Polish-- so I won't.

This again raises the question of what Schafnernaker means? Given it's not a standard German-language word, it's Austrian in the sense of Austrian dialect. Schaf(e) is German for sheep, and Schäfer is shepherd-- but what of "naker"? I know "nack" is naked in standard German-- so perhaps 'sheep-nakeder'-- that is sheep-shearer?

Answers on a postcard. Or via the comments section below, will suffice.

Danke schön

Stutter rap

That Kate Silverton has a lot to answer to... passing on the infection of lapsus linguae to Tomasz today, as he amusingly tripped over his words on News At One-- Kate did apologise for passing the affliction on!

No doubt the green-eyed monsters on those internet forums will start to snipe about Tomasz making "yet another mistake"; what with Tomasz being human, having no Autocue and routinely doing live broadcasts. Those without selective memories would recall other weather (or other live) presenters occasionally slip up too. I think Tomasz's gaffes are remembered because of the humorously self-effacing way he deals with them; shame some people can't see the frivolity and fun in life, and have to automatically reach for the vinegar.

Especially as Tomasz's increasing use of semophoric hand-gestures and dramatic intonation makes the weather charts animate even more. "Splodges" a new edition to the vernacular, also a Corbett-esque turn of phrase about "umbrellas"; plus a hint of Dom Littlewood (of One Show fame) with "ere's yer warm front, ere's yer cold front". Nice layer of stubble once more {i}

Some mega-praise for Tomasz: When he talked of Trent Bridge, he didn't say it is "in Nottingham", unlike his some of his erroneous BBC colleagues have done. Said cricket ground is in the town West Bridgford-- which is not part of the City of Nottingham. Indeed the cricket ground and West Bridgford is the Borough of Rushcliffe (indeed the council's HQ is across the road from thw ground!); although separate from Nottingham, it is in Nottinghamshire.

Then again we can't expect these London media-types to know about geography beyond the listening-posts of Milton Keynes [wink]: They still think Cleveland exists, Yorkshire is one county, don't realise Wales has 22 counties for geographic reference and they probably get a nose-bleed when they travel outside confines of the M25 [wink#2]

And they probably think that the East Midlands is practically Birmingham {ii}. So I'm pleased to see The Schaf is above such things... and he even manages to be nicer to look at/listen to than Stuart Broad, now there's something.

Photobucket

{i} I'm sure he grows it, just to frustrate/excite the likes of me during daily worship [LOL]
{ii} A gold star for anybody who can get a native Londoner to do a East Midlands accent, without sounding like a Brummy

Llynacy

Tomasz was back on this lunchtime, with a lovely sky-blue tie. Different lighting too, anything that illuminates Tomasz more is a bonus...

I noticed he did it again today-- yes-- he mentioned the Llyn Peninsula! {i}

I notice that every few weeks he likes to namecheck said Welsh land feature, almost out of habit. Now I have nothing against the Llyn Peninsula-- a very picturesque and tranquil part of Gwynedd (been there myself): It just seems an odd place to frequently reference on a national forecast, especially since it's not that long (no more than 20 miles and only a few wide) and its sparsely populated {ii}.

Perhaps Tomasz has some special connection with that area of Wales. He seems to have a nice grasp of it with his left hand here {iii}

Meanwhile Simon McCoy appeared to be up to an old trick of his, dissing The Schaf. It could be inferred that Simon is saying our Tomasz is not an oiling painting! How rude... Tomasz is way better looking than any oil-painting, a pretty picture indeed. I'd rather look at him than Mona Lisa (what a sour-face mare she is).

{i} What's that Skippy? I'm running out of ideas? Surely not
{ii} No I'm not going to use the 'N word'!
{iii} Behave yourselves!
