Batten down the hatches

I know it's probably a little shallow to wax lyrical about such things: However Tomasz was a vision of pulchritude yesterday on Country Tracks, a blissful blue. Stormy weather ahead, and Tomasz showcase a very eyecatching area of pressure down in the south, with swelling isobars.

Looks as though he had only just managed to batten down his hatch...

Sadly not everyone admires Tomasz's casual look. I'm reliably informed our old friends the Metro and the Daily Mail have decided to stick the knife in: I haven't picked a copy of either today (for scanning), however there's an abridged version online and the Daily Wail

I can only imagine I've irked them, with my references to said papers and their irrational reports about Tomasz; because this report isn't scraping the barrel, but raking out the bin! Especially as they have only managed to find one complaint (ye gods), from a Stephen Jones of Brighton {iv}

I can only speculate that Mr Jones (and Metro or Mail journos) has been working stuck down a Chielan mine, because the male presenters have always dressed casually for Country Tracks-- Tomasz several times-- so why the sudden outrage? Alex Deakin was dressed just like for Countryfile only a few hours later {i}, no fit of vapours about that.

Could it be that Mr Jones and journos from Metro, are jealous about how stunning Tomasz looks in his casuals? The chest {ii}, shoulders, biceps, glutus maximus and [ahem] the 'other thing'. I wonder because the Metro (in paper version) and the Mail have seen it fit to repeat all his gaffes again.

Are you running out of Cheryl Cole stories, Metro?

Well for those who do have the memory of goldfish, Tomasz did present the rest of Sunday's forecasts on the News Channel in a suit. He has a little message for you at the beginning...

Ignore the Metro and Daily Hate Mail {iii}, Tomasz you a classy act and you are an awesome sight. Speaking of "blocked drains", mine need dealing with now...

If you are a reader from the British Islands {v}, then be careful in these storms

PS: Thanks to Terratec for uploads, especially spotting the potential with the latter!

{i} Lex Deakin was looking very dapper too.
{ii} Lucky poppy, that's all I'm saying
{iii} Perhaps a texting/letter-wrting campaign to Metro is needed, eh?
{iv} "Come in off the street", what's that supposed to mean anyway? Does he think forecasters live at TVC or summat?
{v} The UK plus Isle of Man and the Channel Islands, since some have asked-- precisely the BBC's national catchment area. The IOM and Channel Islands are not technically part of the UK, instead "associated" with it. British Isles (as opposed to British Islands) includes the Republic of Ireland too, completely separate from the UK and therefore not served domestically by the BBC.

  1. Jeez, have the daily rags really got nothing better to do/report?
EVERY forecast on Country Tracks (and Countryfile, too), is presented with the Broadcast Meteorologist wearing casuals.

  2. Hello everyone.

What irritating press we have in the UK. I believe that it is a classic example of trying to find the slightest thing in order to bring up his past 'gaffes'. How many times have we read recently 'This is not the first time'...for some reason the press believes the fact he is 'Polish-born' is of some relevance. Rubbish. What next? 'TS creates outrage when he presents the weather with his shoe laces undone. This is not the first time POLISH-born Schaf has been in trouble'.

As RM says, superman Tomasz has been presenting in casuals on Country Tracks and its sister programme, Countryfile, for at least 4 years. So has everyone else from the weather centre. (Some of the female weather presenters wouldn't be out of place standing on a street corner by passing traffic.)

There are people out there who have had both legs blown off because of some al-Qaeda nutter. There are people out there who have lost their sight because some moron decided to pick up a gun and shoot people at random. There are people out there who have been diagnosed with a terminal illness. There are young men losing their lives in the middle-east in order to protect us. There is poverty out there where people are dying from prevetable illness. Countries are dealing with volcanoes, floods, earthquakes and cholera all at once. And the press here have the AUDACITY to believe that what represents news, and we need to know about it, is when a 100% brilliant man wears jeans and a top to do the weather?! OUTRAGEOUS. There are 1440 minutes in a day. The arsewipes that are the Daily Mail and Metro seem to believe 3 minutes of them constitutes news.

Mr Jones (if he exists)needs to find something to occupy his time. At the moment he has no life, because if he is spending one second complaining about baloney, he has no life and needs to get something proper to worry about.

TS: carry on doing what you do. If people want to show that they are idiots, let 'em.

    That's it.
    Best wishes all.

  3. Thanks for the comments!

    Mike:
It beggars belief, doesn't it? As you rightly point out, the forecasters have been dressing like that, since the programme's inception. Joe Crowley, Jodie Kidd and so on are in hiking boots, jeans and casual shirts. As the Beeb spokesperson said: "It's in keeping with the tone of the programme"

    Matt:
Can't really add any more to that! Wonder how many people actually complained-- just the one it appears! Is the DM going to do this everytime some Angry of Mayfair cavils about something inconsequential? I can only imagine that Mr Jones didn't see the rest of his broadcasts that day, or Mr Deakin later.

It seems the paper has it in for Tomasz. Is because he posed for a *gay* magazine, or is it because he's Polish (or both probably)? Or because he's popular, well-liked and [gasp] jovial. Nothing irritates the Daily Mail than people being happy.

Perhaps somebody at DM/Metro has been reading my site, and has decided to irk me for bedevilment. Perhaps I should be flattered!

  4. Dan was on Country Tracks the other week in jeans and jumper, didn't see that 'news' in the Daily Fail.

Liked some of the comments though, including, 'Get a life you moaners' and 'Sad that the DM has to keep making stories out of nothing'.

    Ridiculous.

  5. Kirsty:

It appears our friends at the Daily Maul have it in for Tomasz, as ever they ignore his colleagues. Although when Tomasz disappears from our screens, will Dan be their next target?
Love some of the other comments:

"This guy probably earns £75k a year - if not £100k. I would expect someone as rich as this to dress appropriately for an audience of MILLIONS"

"The BBC probably think this weatherperson would appear too 'Conservative' if dressed in a shirt and tie and that would never do!
The BBC live in a little bubble which gives them a very distorted view of the world. They try to be 'trendy' to increase their appeal to a younger audience, none of whom actually watch the BBC because they are all glued to their computers, so Auntie only ends up alienating or insulting the older audience who do watch the channel.
What a bunch of Muppets they must have in charge"

"Typical pathetic explanation by BBC spokesman"

"The BBC attempting to pull us down to their level.
Both the BBC and this scruff have absolutely no respect for their viewers.
I pay my licence & don't wish to see low-life like this in my home, which is where he is if my TV is tuned to this channel when he happens to be on"

"A spokesman for the BBC said the outfit 'was in line with the tone of the show'.

"So the show is low rent Scruffy. Pity the licence fee isnt!"

"As I recall, he is being moved backstage anyway, so this is probably his petulant little rebellion"

"[Who cares?]ME! And millions of other licence paying public.Thats who!!
Stick your riff raff on the commercial channels and keep them off
    the publicly owned channel"

"I pay my licence & don't wish to see low-life like this in my home, which is where he is if my TV is tuned to this channel when he happens to be on"

"Surely the BBC can obtain better presenters. Not a very difficult job, after all. Lend him a suit if he doesn't own one"

    "Standards? None apparently"

"The BBC live in a little bubble which gives them a very distorted view of the world. They try to be 'trendy' to increase their appeal to a younger audience, none of whom actually watch the BBC because they are all glued to their computers, so Auntie only ends up alienating or insulting the older audience who do watch the channel.
What a bunch of Muppets they must have in charge"

"Just another symptom of the plummeting standards within the BBC, and some of the comments show just how successful this subliminal dumbing down has been!"

"It does show a drop in the standards that viewers expect, but it's typical of the bbc, you can bet your bottom dollar the producer is left wing, and hates what we would call standards.
They are responsible for the dumbing down of most correspondents on their news shows through allowing them to get away with not wearing a tie, trying to look cool and casual.
We don't want that, we want cool and professional, not cool and scruffy"

"Is he the one who feels he is competing for an Oscar when merely forecasting the weather. His over the top antics are really annoying. Just tell us what you think the weather might me without the arm waving and excited voice.

"Sorry, I know I am old-fashioned but I still appreciate a suit and tie - it does give an impression of some sort of respect for the viewers"

Top marks for sarcasm here: "I now no longer have a television after kicking in the screen yesterday as I was so angry after seeing this."

Yeah Tomasz should wear a dinner jacket, have no personality and be solemn [rolling eyes]. And preferably not be too Polish or too model like. And never make mistakes-- because normal human beings never do-- do they?

Also peope go hiking in the countryside wearing suits don't they?

Thanks to all those who wrote nice comments :-)
