A blog dedicated to the most amazing weather forecaster there is-- Tomasz Schafernaker! *Established in September 2009*
Please see my profile info for more stuff on the great man himself!
A long time since I last updated this blog-- for that I can only apologise-- but tidings of Tomasz have been unforthcoming of late.
However some news of interest, for those jet-setters amongst you. For The Schaf has a job doing weather forecasts for the radio station of Monocle, an off-shoot of the eponymous magazine of all things of chique culture, for people who know Sir Paul Smith from WHSmith.
The weather forecasts are for those glamorous jet-setter locations: Monaco, Zurich, Dubai, Chamonix, Middlesbrough and so on. I suspect its only a matter of time before His Loveliness graces the pages of said magazine itself.
So look out for Tomasz, when you're on your hols....
The Schaf was on Janice Long in the early hours of this morning, Janice had a good chat with the "seasoned traveller".
First Tomasz told us about his visit to Dubai; all skyscrapers, posh hotels and desert. He went down to the beach one day, and it was "scorchio" {i}; it would be if Tomasz was lying on his towel in his Speedos, but he was referring to temperatures of ~44C.
Poor Tomasz had gone down the beech without footwear-- he felt like an "idiot" because he was hopping around on the hot sand! The Schaf could never look like an idiot. Janice enquired as to whether he had "barbie feet": I'm not sure this was in a barbeque-- or Barbie doll {ii}! A delightfully quaint expression from the Long'un.
He also went to an Arabian camp, sounds fun. Even with my distaste for warm weather, I would go into the desert with Tomasz and a tent, and I'd put it for him. His Loveliness also rode on a jumbo out in the Far East, one of those double-decker airbusses no less.
After informing us about the weather, he told a tale of his soujourn in Paris. After his bike ride to Paris, he lost his rucksack (containing his best T-shirt and music player) in the X-ray machine for the Eurostar. Once aboard said train, he remembered, but it was too late [cue sinister].
Worry not dear readers, because The Schaf is cunning. Since French customer-service is almost as good as it is in the UK, you apparently cannot phone or email the lost-property-- only write to it! So our man did just that, he went to the lost property in Garde du Nord-- and was re-united with his lost property-- hurrah!
He was most upset about his t-shirt. It may be scruffy, but I imagine Tomasz looks a beau mec in it. I'd like to explore some exotic places with Tomasz, out of curiosity.
Meanwhile, a treat on Outtake TV last Saturday for those who round on Tomasz for making mistakes and wonder why he hasn't been sacked: One or two clips of a certain forecaster making gaffes and facetiously reacting to them... step foward Alex Deakin! Another weather forecaster makes gaffes as well, blimey-- enough to make you splutter on one's copy of the Daily Mail.
{i} As for "scorchio", recalls the great days of Paola Fisch. Ah thethetheh Chris Waddle sminky-pinky thalia-he thalia-ha, Bhoutrus Bhoutrus Ghali...
Fast-foward to 2:40
{ii} New Barbie coming out soon. Barbie has a plush penthouse, sports car and expensive clothes. Ken is scruffy, despondent and has no house of his own. Look out for "Divorce Barbie" soon!
The Schaf was in a sarcastic mood today on News At One {ii}, he said that he felt like changing the summary to: "Is it really May?". To such an extent he mistakenly had the date as March 10th-- "certainly feels like March". That's because it's chilly.
For those who like warmer climes, milder temperatures are on the way. Quoth The Schaf: "By the time we hit 20C, we won't know what's hit us; you won't need to go to Dubai, that's for sure!". It's still chilly at the moment though.
At 10:56 Tomasz introduced his broadcast with: "Hot and sunny week on the way-- not!". Is Tomasz like todally turning into a Valley Girl, like ohmigod! {i}. He added that it's unlikely "to get desperately warmer" either. It's chilly dontchakno.
Chilly enough to damage your garden produce in fact... I glad he said pots though.
Blimey the thought of Tomasz, Norwegians, Vikings and blowing got me all flustered. Jon Andresen has lot to answer for... I blame Magne Furuholmen.
Finally on Facebook's Tomasz Schafernaker Appreciation Group a Lucy Morris (nee Walker) posts: "Tom, we love you! I could be really mean and post some photos on here of college days... but I'm not that cruel... wouldn't want to ruin the hot new looks you sport nowadays. Great to see you're so popular mate. Wow, the Tomasz Schafernaker Appreciation Society... I am in awe!!!!!!!!"
Damn right: Although I can't imagine Tomasz being anything other than hot! Sadly some of us don't turn into łabędźie
Thanks to Terratec for the video uploads... Tomasz is so impressed with you, that he's started linked your videos in his Twitter feed!
{i} Sooo 1996, whaddever. Gag me with a spoon! {ii} Sarcasm is the lowest form of wit-- but it's the funniest.
One of the delights of Radio 2, is listening to Janice Long in the wee hours with her droll banter.
Tomasz was on last night, talking about his garden and getting poetic about his fronds. He was also recalling his days as a teenager in Poland, when it used to be -15C by day in winter {i}, and comparing it with our troubles with hibernal weather. However Tomasz was very fair, and used one of my favourite phrases: "It's all relative"! He talked of Dubai, where rain causes disruption.
Mostly it was talk about his 'tropical' garden, Tomasz is a talented gardener as well-- is there nothing he can't do? I reckon he has many hidden talents: Perhaps he's a juggler on the quiet, I can imagine him deftly handling a pair of balls. Maybe he likes going shooting, I can see him firing his weapon into a butt. Or perhaps he likes being a bell-ringer? He'd make a good campanologist.
Most intriguingly, Tomasz revealed he will be back for three more nightlies with Janice this week-- The Schaf hinted he has some interesting things to chat about over the week! Can't wait... he is a "tease" as Janice rightly suggests. Tomasz misbehaving indeed!
Tomasz's own website continues to develop apace of course, he's doing a sterling there. I will soon be redundant on the blogosphere [pensive LOL]
