Tomasz's twisting tongue

No Tomasz on the BBC airwaves today, but he has kindly provided us with this Polish tongue twister. See if you can match Tomasz's honey-coated tones...

Drink me

The real question is, how many points would that score in Scrabble? It is now my favourite tongue-twister, mostly of Tomasz's majestic mastery of it. Even beats: "Worst week of the week award, awarded once a week weekly, on a week-by-week basis"

Now for Tomasz's next trick, when he's casting his hands over Wales, I want him to talk about the weather in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

I'm sure Tomasz could get his tongue round that...

What a mouthful

Tomasz did something brave today, something lesser mortals wouldn't attempt to do, he trod where other angels would fear tred. Yes, he pronounced "Eyjafjallajökull", not once-- but twice!

Good on you Tomasz! I've often thought he must be talented with his tongue {i}. For those who are interested, the Eyjafjallajökull means "island-moutains-glacier". The volcano takes its name from the glacier it's underneath... or rather was, before the volcano vapourised it!

Despite Tomasz's Facebook concerns about its pronunciation, I think he got it right-- luckily Icelandic is a phonetic language (as opposed to semi-English, like English)Here's the correct pronunciation, as per the BBC website-- or a phonetic transcription

Here's The Schaf in action, check out the smile after the second mention of the volcano...

The other big news, is that warm weather is drifting up from Azores. There's no person better equipped than Tomasz, when it comes to showing an area of high-pressure thrusting up from the south-west.

Sadly (for me), temperatures are set to get to 20C. Not so bad in an air-conditioned office, but I don't like the thought of commuting, sweating like a pregnant nun. Least seeing Tomasz's suit struggling to contain his biceps, cheered me up. Dan Corbett with his picnic-baskets, doesn't quite compare.

{i} He can speak Polish, English, Spanish and German after all

Boxing clever

The Schaf returned today on the News Channel, BBC1 and R4-- he was wearing a fetching blue tie with yellow dots on. No Boxing Day badinage to report from today. Perhaps Tomasz is worn out after having a juicy turkey and copious amounts of stuffing!

Or he could be disappointed the snow has melted. I went for a walk in Wollaton Park, and it was all slushy... I'll be having to re-wax my hiking boots now! Glamorous life I lead. I'm told the snow may return next week though... I suspect Tomasz will tell us as mid-day tomorrow, on the five-day forecast.

Now you may not be satisfied with a present you've received from Santa this year, so you may wish to sell it on a well-known internet auction site. In June 2008 Nicholas Owen contemplated on whether to sell poor Tomasz on E-bay or not! With the following tongue action, who would want to?

Tomasz's tongue twister

Clearly there was something at the BBC canteen this lunchtime, which caused its broadcasters to become tongue-tied. First Sophie Raworth struggled with our favourite weatherman's name-- then Tomasz had trouble with Bristol and East Anglia. I think Tomasz needs to exercise his tongue...

Still I liked Tomasz's tie today, suits him (sir, ooh-- bright pink sir?!). In a later performance he regained the power of speech, but his graphics let him down! The IT folk at TVC ought to sort it out, can't let The Schaf down like that! He did show concern for a polar bear, which was sweet-- I like to think of him as cuddly teddy bear. Yeah. I like the thumbs-up thing he's starting doing as well of late..

I'm pleased to say his R4 forecast went far smoother today.

Thanks go to Terratec365 for his Youtube mastery
